Intake helps ensure your safety needs are assessed and the group remains secure and protected.
After intake, you enter a structured support system.
Each space has a purpose. Each role is defined. SAPS personnel can receive one on one support, group support, or both, depending on what feels safest and what is needed.
SAPS personnel can be part of the support groups, receive one on one support, or use both depending on what is appropriate and safe for their situation.
RISE in Blue is supported by trauma informed counsellors, social workers, legal volunteers, attorneys, interns and trained support volunteers. The purpose is to make sure SAPS personnel are not left trying to figure everything out alone. Support is structured, monitored and guided by people who understand domestic violence, safety, boundaries and the need for confidential help.
SAPS personnel can join the legal advice space and ask questions. Legal volunteers offer legal advice and guidance on the Domestic Violence Act, protection order procedures, SAPS internal processes, firearm implications under Section 102 and Section 103 of the Firearms Control Act, rights, remedies and available options.
Trauma informed counsellors and counselling interns offer confidential online scheduled sessions. This gives SAPS personnel a safer space to speak, be heard, receive emotional support and start making sense of what they are facing without judgement or exposure.
The women’s support group is a private peer support space for survivors. It is safe, monitored and informative. Members can receive support, share carefully, learn from others and be reminded that they do not have to move through this alone.
The men’s support group is a private peer support space for SAPS men who need support, guidance and a safer place to speak. It is monitored, respectful and informative. One on one support can also be offered where needed.
General support is available over and above the group spaces. It may include one on one guidance, practical direction, help understanding the process, support with next steps and overall guidance for SAPS personnel who need help but are not sure where to begin.
