South African Constitution

29/3/2021

The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, was approved by the Constitutional Court (CC) on 4 December 1996 and took effect on 4 February 1997. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. No other law or government action can supersede the provisions of the Constitution.

What is the importance of the Constitution of South Africa?
The Constitution contains the most important rules of our political system. It protects the rights of the people inside the country, and it explains their obligations. It defines the institutions of South Africa, what their powers are, and how they may use their powers.

What are the three main values of the South African Constitution?
The Republic of South Africa is one, sovereign, democratic state founded on the following values:
  • Human dignity, the achievement of equality and the advancement of human rights and freedoms.
  • Non-racialism and non-sexism.
  • Supremacy of the constitution and the rule of law.

What is the most important law in South Africa?
Our Constitution is the most important - or supreme - law of the land. No other law may conflict with it; nor may the Government do anything that violates it. In a constitutional democracy such as ours, the Constitution is superior to Parliament and is the yardstick by which all other laws are judged.

Men Suffer Under The Hands Of Domestic Violence Too

WOMEN ABUSE MEN TOO
This topic never gets discussed. It is important to recognise that men suffer under the hands of domestic violence too. It is even harder for them to come forward, they are men - society demands they "act accordingly", so it would be very rare for a man to open a case of assault at SAPS.
(Reuters Health) - Men who experience domestic violence and abuse often don’t seek help until the problem becomes a crisis, researchers say.
Men tend to worry they would not be believed, or that they would be perceived as less masculine if they reported abuse, their analysis found.
Along with fearing they wouldn’t be believed or would be seen as weak, men often stayed in abusive relationships because they felt committed to or concerned about their partners. In other cases, they were too depressed, despondent or traumatized to gather the strength to leave.
